I didn't want any of it to be used for the Witnesses, so I took it all except for the Emphatic Diaglott and the big study-version NWT and took them to the dump. Post-Crisis of Conscience, I wish I'd kept the Aid book.

What do you do with your old liturature?
by Gadget in.
i'm in the middle of decorating my new house, and was a bit stuck as to what to use to mask off the furniture/carpets etc until i spotted an oldv pile of watchtowers that i'd been meaning to throw out.
i now have paint spattered watchtowers all over my living room.. anybody else got any good things to use old liturature for?

IMPORTANT: No more politics, soapboxes and whinging.
by Simon init seems that politics are once more taking over the board.. when things are discussed properly it's not a problem but alas, it seems some can't help but start throwing insults and labels around.
i keep reading about "you left wing communist loving liberals" and "right wing facists" and really, it's getting very tiresome.. can i suggest we tone it down please.
think before you post and don't be surprised if you include insults in your post that it will just be deleted.. also, unless you are interested in having a discussion and hearing opposing points of view without getting all pissy about it then don't post !

Suggestion:
If there is a post you'd like to make that is personally important to you, and you are concerned that the content might be an issue, here's a suggestion: Ask Someone's Advice First. Not permission, advice. It could be a mod, it could be someone whose opinion and judgement you think tracks that of the mods, but e-mail or PM it to them and get their feedback.
If you're thinking about posting it, then it isn't so personal that you can't show it to someone... and it's a good idea to compose personally-significant posts in a text editor like Word anyway. You'd hate to lose it in some connection-loss incident.

The locking of threads.
by seven006 init seems like there is a little fire starting to burn here on the subject of locking threads.
iv been on this board a long time and on average have only seen about one out of every 200 threads locked.
those who have their threads locked take it very personal, that's understandable.

Girls, Would You Say "No" If.....
by rocketman in.....your boyfriend proposed to you while on vacation?.
the reason i ask this is because a couple i know was away in the tropics, and he popped the question.
and yet, since they've been back (over 8 months) they've been mum on all things wedding.

Hey - this is like a question in a court of law - you don't ask it unless you're very confident in the answer.
My old roommate proposed on a vacation - went over great!

Emergence from the WTS - suggestions
by Phantom Stranger ini speak as a "raised-in-the-jws" adult, out for almost 20 years.
i am writing this post in the earnes hope that someone emerging from the jw's can benefit from some small part of my experience (not because i think i know the only right way to leave...).
one of our big inhibitions against leaving is the fear of losing all of one's support network.

No Respect
by StinkyPantz ini have a friend who refuses to tell me how old he is.
he claims that people often judge you or pigeon-hole you when they find out how old you are.
i have tried to argue against this point, but i have recently realized how true this is.

I don't let age or gender play any role in pre-judging a person.
However, sometimes posters have acted immaturely - some have been young, some have been older, and some have been of indeterminate age (they don't say how old they are). I tend to assume that the latter are young - probably irrelevant and in any case a bias you've called my attention to.
I hope they all grow out of it.

The Russian authorities have obviously done the math on the publishing corp thing and are looking to get their palms greased in order to allow the assemblies to occur. This sort of thing is not uncommon in Russia if you aren't bribing the right people...
Maybe they've been on this board and read about the bribes in Mexico...
